Frequently Asked Questions

A Pin is a travel memory you create to mark a special place you've visited. Each Pin includes a photo, location, date, and optional description. Pins appear on your globe and can be shared with friends.

To create a Pin:

1. Tap the + button (floating action button) on the globe
2. Take a photo or select one from your gallery
3. Add a title and optional description
4. Set the date (or date range) for when you visited
5. Confirm your location (automatically detected or manually set)
6. Tap "Create Pin" to save

Yes! Tap on any Pin to view its details, then tap the edit icon. You can modify the photo, title, description, date, or location. You can also long press on a Pin to quickly access options like edit, delete, or hide. To delete a Pin, open it and use the delete option. Note: Deleting a Pin is permanent and cannot be undone.

Yes, you can hide individual Pins from your globe view. Tap on a Pin and use the hide option, or long press on a Pin for quick access to the hide option. Hidden Pins are not deleted and can be unhidden later. You can also hide all Pins from a specific friend if needed.

There are three ways to add friends:

1. Search by username: Open the Friends menu, go to the "Add" tab, and search for your friend's username
2. Scan QR code: Use the "Scan" tab to scan your friend's QR code
3. Share your QR code: Use the "Code" tab to show your QR code for others to scan

After sending a friend request, your friend will receive a notification and can accept or decline.

When you send a friend request, the other person receives a notification. They can accept or decline the request. Once accepted, you'll be able to see each other's Pins on the globe (unless hidden). You'll also be able to challenge each other in games and see each other on leaderboards.

Yes, you can remove a friend at any time. Open the Friends menu, find the friend in your list, and use the remove option. This will unfriend them and they will no longer see your Pins or be able to challenge you.

Yes, you can hide all Pins from a specific friend without removing them. This is useful if you want to stay friends but temporarily hide their Pins from your globe view. You can unhide them later.

Pinr features three geography-based games:

• Pin Drop: Drop a pin on a globe to guess the location of a place shown in a photo
• Flag Dash: Identify countries by their flags as quickly as possible
• Travel Battle: Compete in geography trivia questions

All games have multiple difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard) and timed gameplay.

Open the Games menu from the main screen. Select a game type and difficulty level, then start playing. Each game has different mechanics:

• Pin Drop: View a photo and tap on the globe where you think it was taken
• Flag Dash: Match flag images to country names before time runs out
• Travel Battle: Answer multiple-choice geography questions correctly

To challenge a friend:

1. Open the Games menu
2. Select a game type and difficulty
3. Before starting, tap "Challenge Friend"
4. Select a friend from your friends list
5. Play the game and try to beat their score

Your friend will receive a notification about the challenge and can play to try to beat your score. The person with the higher score wins the challenge. Challenge results are tracked and visible in your game history.

Game streaks track how many consecutive days you've played at least one game. Your streak increases each day you play, and resets if you miss a day. You can see your current streak and longest streak ever achieved in your profile.

Leaderboards show the highest scores for each game among you and your friends. You can view:

• Your personal best score for each game
• Your friends' best scores
• Overall rankings across all games

Leaderboards are updated in real-time as you and your friends achieve new high scores.

Journeys are collections of Pins that tell a narrative about a trip or experience. You can create a Journey by selecting multiple Pins and arranging them in a sequence. Journeys can be shared with friends and provide a way to showcase your travel adventures.

To create a Journey:

1. Open the Journeys menu
2. Tap "Create Journey"
3. Select multiple Pins to include in your Journey
4. Arrange them in the order you want
5. Add a title and description
6. Share with friends or keep it private

The globe shows all your Pins and your friends' Pins (if you've added them). You can:

• Tap on Pins to view details
• See clusters when many Pins are close together
• Use the search bar to find specific locations
• View your current location (if location permissions are granted)
• Long press on a Pin to access options like edit, delete, or hide

The Explore feature allows you to add locations to your bucket list. You can search for places and add them to your list, then mark them as either "wishlist" (places you want to visit) or "booked" (places you've already planned to visit). This helps you organise and track the destinations you're interested in exploring.

Location permissions allow Pinr to:

• Automatically tag your Pins with your current location
• Show your position on the globe
• Help you find nearby places when creating Pins

Your location is only used when creating Pins and is never shared without your permission.

Exploration streaks track how many consecutive days you've explored new locations on the globe. Each day you view or interact with Pins in a new area, your streak increases. This encourages you to discover new places and engage with the globe regularly.

Open the Settings menu (tap your profile icon), then select "Edit Profile". You can change your username, avatar photo, and pin colour. Your username must be unique and can only be changed if it's not already taken by another user.

Your pin colour is the colour that represents you on the globe. When friends view your Pins, they'll see them in your chosen colour. You can change your pin colour in the Edit Profile menu from the profile page, where you can select from a variety of colours.

Pinr supports multiple sign-in methods:

• Email & Password: Sign in with your email address and password
• Google Sign-In: Sign in with your Google account
• Apple Sign-In: Sign in with your Apple ID
• Biometric: Use fingerprint (Android) or Face ID (iOS) for quick and secure access

Your account is securely linked to your chosen authentication method.

Account deletion is available through the Settings menu. This will permanently delete all your Pins, Journeys, game scores, friend connections, and all your personal data from our servers. This action cannot be undone, so please be certain before proceeding.

Pinr sends push notifications for:

• New friend requests
• Accepted friend requests
• Game challenges from friends
• Challenge results
• New Pins from friends
• New Journeys from friends

You can manage notification preferences in your device's Settings app.

Yes, Pinr is free to download and use. All core features including creating Pins, adding friends, playing games, and creating Journeys are available at no cost.

Pinr is available for both iOS and Android devices. You can download it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
